Rod Picott - LIVE in Mick Murphy's, October 6, 2014

www.rodpicott.com

Rod Picott returns to play BAG at Mick Murphy's, Ballymore Eustace, Co. Kildare on Monday, October 6th. Doors open at 8:30pm, and admission is €12 at the door.

Rod Picott is the songs he sings. Since before Woody Guthrie songwriters have soaked their public image in the sepia tones of the working life but Picott bears the real life scars of living that life.
Rod Picott's songs are inhabited by sheetrock hangers, drinkers, circus hands, boxers and working girls and he sings about his characters with intimacy. Listening to a Rod Picott album you can smell the gasoline on a mechanics hands and the perfume of lovers in dark corners; he fondly tells the stories of the often voiceless blue collar regular 'Joe', for he was, and still is that soldier.

The son of a welder and former Marine, Picott grew up in the small mill town of South Berwick, Maine, Rod Picott has released five solo cds and one cd with sometimes duo partner Amanda Shires-- all to excellent reviews and extensive touring. The very definition of a modern troubadour Picott tours the U.S. in a Jeep Cherokee with a current odometer reading of 276,300 miles. Picott also tours annually in Europe and the U.K. to the tune of 130 plus shows yearly. Picott is lauded for his narrative and melodic songwriting, passionate delivery and darkly humorous onstage storytelling.

I'll just say that his new record, 'Weightless' has everything you'd want from the man - power, subtlety, superb songwriting, and a storyteller's touch - all wrapped up in that distinctive rootsy, Blues sound of his that wins you over as soon as you hear it. Top notch - one of my favourite records of 2014.

Unfortunately, Ed Deane has come down with severe laryngitis and cannot perform tonight; we hope to reschedule for a future date.

Way back in the 60's a fantastic young band hit the scene with a bang, they we're called Blues House and two of its members were then school friends Ed Deane and Eamon Murray. Now all these years later these two talented musicians are playing together again as a very exciting duo. They play BAG at Mick Murphy's, Ballymore Eustace, Co. Kildare on Monday Sept. 15. Doors 8:30pm. Admission is €12 at the door.

For much of the 90's Ed worked with the blues diva Dana Gillespie, then with Chris Jagger, Paul Jones, Shane McGowan and later with Bap Kennedy and Nick Lowe.
